La Vache!

La Vache!
48 Peel Street, Central
Hong Kong

This bistro-style steakhouse is decent and reasonably priced. I can't say the steak is overrated because its price point is definitely on the mark. However, I would be surprised if this restaurant continues to succeed without adding to its one-item menu.

The dessert cart is more interesting: the hazelnut pastry is rich and creamy, but does not leave a sugary aftertaste. One wonders if this is made in house or outsourced.

Shop 1, G/F
74-80 Johnston Road, Wan Chai
Hong Kong

Fabulous pear and apple tarts. Natural flavors of the pear fruit come to the fore, with a sweet palate and a lingering syrupy finish. The sugar-acid balance is well-crafted. The pastry fluffs and flakes evenly. A delight.

2 stars to pear tart.
