Chinese-style oatmeal bun
Guangzhou.
Made with oatmeal, almonds and sugar, the buns, when eaten straight from the steamer while piping hot, are heavenly.

小竹簍冒菜
小竹簍冒菜
紅磡明安街9號地下
Mao hotpot is popular in Chengdu. The idea is to drop meats and vegetables of one's liking into a large pot of spicy soup. After the pieces are cooked, they are retrieved to a bowl, whereupon hot soup from that same large pot is added. Essentially everyone gets to contribute to and benefit from the rich pot of communal soup. This small joint is started by a drifter from Sichuan who finished graduate schooling in Hong Kong but decided that entrepreneurship is more rewarding as a career. The choices are rather limited at the moment; but so far everything seems to work well, if slightly understaffed, for the drifter.

Factory kitchen
Kwun Tong.
Factory workers need to eat, and someone needs to cook for them. In the factory district of Kwun Tong, plenty of underground eateries serve up plates upon plates of food for hungry workers during lunchtime. Here is a plate of curry chicken, at 25 HKD including a drink.
